This is my hypothesis based on developer's CatchSequence algorithm disclosed in a Mousehunt Staging forum.
In a hunt, there are at least 3-4 dice rolls. There is one roll that is very difficult to reverse engineer: the mouse encountered. This is because when your cheese fails to attract a mouse, it does not say what mouse it is in the hunter's journal.
